Halloween Art projects

We had so much fun the other day making halloween art. Jacob had just watched Monsters vs Aliens we made BOB out of playdough. We made pumpkins and some aliens and lots of fun things. Jake loves to cut and glue and I love having something for him to do. Alexis was so much fun. She sat at the table in her chair and watched and giggled and Jake showed her all of his projects and asked "Is that good baby?" He loves praise from his baby sister already.

We had a great time at Jake's birthday. His cousins came and played with him. And he got Rocket! He was very excited about everything. The kids were having so much fun we left some of the gifts unopened and opened them the next day with grandma and grandpa.

Jacob Turns 3

Today is Jake's birthday and I thought I would record some things about him to remember what his favorites are and what he is like right now.

He told me he was getting bigger and I said no I want you to stay my baby boy forever and he said OK I will. His favorite food Definitely Corn dogs but he likes green beans and cottage cheese. Favorite show Johnny Test or any new DVD from the library. He spells his name "ABCD Jacob" He is most excited to get a Little Einsteins rocket for his birthday. He likes to "write" his name and always comes and shows me his writing and tells me all the letters that are on the page. He can write a few letters but mostly it is interpreting his writing after the fact. He loves Nursery. He loves building really tall towers. He loves to wear his PJ's and would keep them on all day if his mean mom would let him. His favorite outing is going to the toy store to look at the toys. He loves his baby sister and always says "she is so cute and so precious". He is a great helper he loves to help. He has an "omnitrix" that looks like a big toy watch that he wears everyday so he can be Ben 10 and turn into "Humongasaur" and fight the bad guys. I get to be his sidekick Gwen. We play Pirates everyday because he has to wear a patch to help his eye and he loves to drive the pirate ship and get the sharks that try to get us. He likes to say prayers. He loves to play with his friends (ie cousins mostly). He loves the water and swimming. He is very brave. He will jump off anything. He tries to jump down the stairs from the top (I make him go down and jump from the 4th stair or lower). He loves to wrestle with his dad. And always thinks he can win. He never gives up until dad gets too tired. So I guess he does win by sheer endurance. He has a very sweet disposition and more energy than I know what to do with most of the time.

Healthy eating Habits

I am teaching my son really good eating habits. We really try to get him to eat really healthy food and not snack on junk. You can tell by our conversation this morning. Jake "mom I'm really really hungry" Mom "let's get you some breakfast". Jake "I want a Popsicle and a corn dog that will make me feel better." I didn't give in this time he ate peach oatmeal. But I am so glad that I am teaching him so well. Can't wait to see what he wants for lunch.

We went to the Dinosaur Park with Walker and Jen. It was really cool. We got to see all the dinosaurs outside and play and as we were walking to the car it started to snow. Pretty good timing. Jake and Walker had a great time and were not too scared of the big dinosaurs. Inside they had to robotic dinosaurs the actually moved looked so real they were a little scared of those. The fence looked the like the fences in Jurassic park the say danger high voltage. It was really cool. It will be fun to take them when they are bigger because there is tons information about the dinosaurs and things to learn.

The Living Planet Aquarium is pretty cool. If you have been to the really big aquariums it is not that impressive no full size sharks or whales but they have some really cool exhibits and they do have sharks. And Jake got to touch a sting ray.

Weekly Rendezvous 9/24

During the summer we went on weekly outings with My sister so Jacob and I have continued the tradition. But I am just lame about well first remembering my camera and second posting stuff. So two weeks ago we went to the church history museum. Yes I took my amazingly active touchy almost 3 yr old to a museum. This museum has an amazing exhibit for kids. It also has some really cool things like the original manuscript of the Book of Mormon transcribed by Oliver Cowdery (that spelling looks funny but it will work). Any way we went to the museum with our cousin Walker and "baby Miyah" as Jake calls her. But alas I didn't take my camera so my boring writing will have to suffice.

Red Rock Rules!

The Red Rock "snow to sun" journey begins at 10k feet on the Brian Head Ski Lift. It ends at 3k feet in the Tuacahn theatre just outside of St. George. What is in between? 180 miles of the most beautiful country you've ever set running shoes on.

I ran this great relay this past weekend we had such a good time. My dad came with to watch Alexis. He was amazing and endured well. I really need to get in better shape but doing stuff like this is my motivation for the workouts in between. I have decided that I want to become a real runner instead of a wannabe.

What's the worst that could happen

We headed to Idaho on the 20th to go through the temple with my brother. Also for his goodbye party and farewell talk in church. Jared had to work so we planned on leaving thursday evening. WE got in the car at about 7:30 and drove out of the drive way. We had to make a stop at Walmart to pick up Jake's new glasses on the way so Jared pulled onto the freeway and about half way up the ramp the car stopped. Jared started the car again and drove about a mile and the car stopped again. He looked down and we were out of gas. Now we were driving my car and usually there is a signal light that comes on when the gas is low. And believe me I have tested it you can usually go about 20 miles safely after the low fueul light comes on. Yes I know that is not very smart to test the fuel light. But I swear the light had not come on before we got on the freeway. Jared made some calls but no one was home or they answered and were out somewhere. He gets out and starts walking back the extra mile we drove plus down the on ramp and the three blocks to the gas station. I am sitting on the freeway with Jake and Alexis and Jake is in the back seat asking why did daddy leave us. So I got desperate and called my wonderful visiting teaching partner. She and her husband went and found Jared and they just happened to have a gas can for their lawn mower. Jared got back to the car and we got it going. We drove to Walmart and ran in to get Jake's glasses but of course the optical place closed at 8 so we were too late to get Jake's glasses.(Yes we stopped there before going to the gas station I know I know) We then went to the gas station and were on our way. But as we pulled out of the gas station Jake threw up all over the back seat of the car. So we drove home and put him in the bath and tried to get the puke smell out of the car all the while debating if we should just sleep at home and drive in the morning. We got Jake dressed again and sprayed a ton of febreeze in the car and decided to try again. By this time it was about 10:45 and we were going to have to have a late checkin at the hotel (we were going to Rexburg and apparently hotels there don't have a desk clerk all night). I called the hotel to tell them we would be arriving about 2 am and they said oh well we don't have a room for you. Now my mom booked the rooms for us about a month ago so I couldn't figure out why they didn't have a room. It reminded me of this Seinfeld episode .
Well I called my mom and she went down to the hotel and worked the room thing out. We got to Rexburg eventually and got to go to the temple with my brother and all the other fun things including the Luau party can't beat this Love my little bro.

Family reunion

We had a great time at our Annual Walker family reunion. I haven't uploaded any pictures yet onto my computer. On second thought i am not sure I have any. But anyway. We stayed in Salt Lake and did things that we hadn't done. We went to This is the Place Heritage park which was fun we rode a trolley and I bought Jake a flute which everyone loved (haha). We were supposed to do a family fun run but everyone dogged out after the long day except Kevin he and I went for a run it was really fun to run with him except that he is in really good shape and was like I can run until you are tired just let me know.
We went this place called Classic fun center for the second day it was so fun. They had blow up slides and a skating rink and a jungle play land and a water park well the water part was some water slides and a pool for the little kids which was perfect for our crowd. We ended up having races down the blow up slides and my sister who was 9 months pregnant (she had her baby today) was racing up and sliding down the slides it was so fun. After all the fun we went back to "Grandma Beth's" house and had dinner. It was fun everyone stopped and got a meal from their favorite restaurant and brought it to share. After dinner Grandpa told all the kids his classic bed time stories. I am going to write them down one day because they are really good stories. The kids love them. Every time Jake comes home from Grandpa's house he always wants me to tell him "Chocolate" and I can't do it like my dad so I will have to write them so I can read them to my kids.
Let's see the third day we went to the Church History Museum. Which I had never been to, I actually didn't know that it existed. They have the actual manuscript of the book of Mormon written by Oliver Cowdry(that is not the right spelling). They had so many cool things from the pioneers and early church. They have a whole floor that is just for kids with all kinds of activities and things that are all hands on so we didn't have to keep telling the kids not to touch stuff or climb on the wagons etc. I want to go back because there was a lot of stuff we didn't get to see. We got the most awesome tour of the Church Office Building. My uncle is in the First Quorum of the Seventy and he came and took us through the building. The look outs on the top of the building had beautiful views. The coolest part was going to his department He is one of the bosses in the Temple Department (I don't know his exact title). He showed us the rooms where they discuss all the temple plans and it had a map with all the temples that have been built, that are being built and that have been announced. We got to spend some time with him in his office and hear him talk about being with the Prophet which was really neat. While we were in his office Jake choked and I thought he was going to puke so we go running out of the office, the bathroom was clear around the corner and down a hall. So I was running around with no idea where I was going holding my son hoping he didn't puke on some unsuspecting persons desk.
That night was quite eventful for some of my family you will have to read my sister Jill's account here.

We had family pictures taken the last day we were all in salt lake. My husbands business partner does photography so he came and took our pictures he made this video. I think the pictures turned out really cute. The ones of Kevin and my dad are so fun.

Actually writing a post

I have been neglectful in actually writing updates on here. I love to put pictures but I have looked back and there is not a lot written about what I have been up to. Maybe that is because pretty much the pictures tell the story. Mom of 2. What else have I been doing? Experimenting on different methods for keeping my house clean. Have yet to be successful. Trying to find new ways to entertain my extremely active 2 year old. Trying to figure out how to fit working out into my schedule. Going to Costco and and not being able to resist the chocolate covered almonds. Doing primary stuff (2nd counselor) I was given the "great opportunity" (ie no one else said yes)to write the program for our primary sacrament meeting which is just a little bit intimidating. What else oh feeding a growing baby at her 2 month appointment she was 11lbs 4oz and 23 1/2 inches. That's about it. I am about to attempt to start and finish reading a book. We will see how that goes.

Yes I know the time I spend reading I could be doing a workout. So I pledge in 2 months I will post a picture of myself on here in the mean time you will just have to endure the endless pictures of my cute kids.

Change is good?

A lot has changed in my life in the past 4 months. 4 months! I can't believe that Alexis has been around that long already. We haven't moved which you would think would be not a change but I am pretty sure that we will not be moving out of our current house for a while. This is a big change for me because 3 months ago this house was for sale. 2 kids is a big change. Not as difficult of a change like some people made me think. I love having both. they are very different and that makes things so fun. I do have days where I think how can do everything for both children. The post baby body is a big change. I need some motivation to get back in shape. I love to work out but finding time with the above noted 2 children change is difficult. I have started doing these great videos my mom bought they are 10 minute workouts. The biggest change is Jared's new "job". He is now officially self-employed" no more steady paycheck and benefits. We are on our own. Which will hopefully be an extremely positive change. But right now it is 12-13 hour days and not seeing him at all. I think he is liking what he is doing and is less stressed about work, so that is a really good change. Hopefully more good changes to come I'll keep you posted.

If you were at the bank drive through making a deposit and your sweet two year old boy is in the back seat, of course he is sitting in his car seat not buckled because you are an awesome, responsible parent. He says "mommy I'm gonna be sick". Then climbs up on your lap sticks his head out the window and pukes all over. So what would you do? I as soon as the teller gave me my receipt said I am so sorry and drove away quickly. Luckily I was at the lane that was the farthest away and not right at the bank window. But on a really good note all the puke was outside of my car instead of inside of it, which is usually what happens.

I know living in Utah this is a common phrase but I didn't know that I used it. Apparently I use it often enough that my two year old has started repeating it. I don't think it sounds bad when I say it but when he starts saying "what the heck is that mom" when we are at the grocery store it sounds like I am a really bad mom.

I don't know why but I have been really bothered by this story for the past few days. If you haven't heard about it this is the story . She is pretty awesome. I don't know anything else about her besides what I have seen but there has been so much negative about her and her "controversial" answer to the question. I think the biggest thing that bothers me is that it seems like there was a right and wrong answer. Because she actually gave her opinion about what she believed she is this terrible person. Even though her opinion is shared by the majority of the people in the state that she represents. Anyway that is my little rant because I haven't seen hardly any positive media on her and it was really starting to bug me.

We had an early easter egg hunt at my house with all my neices and nephews. It was raining so we did it inside but they still had a great time. Grandma bought the boys all matching church outfits so they had to try them on. Well the mom's made them try them on none of the boys were very happy about it.

So really nothing interesting has been going on in my life. Our day basically consists of watching cartoons Jake's favorites are Scooby Doo anything on PBS kids especially Super Why, Word Girl and Cyber Chase, Mickey Mouse club house and Tom and Jerry. I bought a bunch of art supply stuff thinking we could spend hours gluing and making pictures but Jake has about a 15 minute attention make a list of some random things interesting or uninteresting about me so that I had something to write about.

1- I hate answering the phone. (talking on the phone is fine just the initially answering and not knowing why someone is calling.)
2- I love box Macaroni and Cheese. (yeah I know kinda gross but I love it)
3- I will be 30 years old and a mother of 2 next month and I still don't consider myself an adult.
4- I love shoes I could own 100 pairs of shoes and still want more.
5- My favorite books are Wuthering Heights and Count of Monte Cristo
6- I hate tuna fish but since I have been pregnant I have craved tuna and cheese sandwiches
7- 2 of my best friends from high school married 2 of my college roommates
8- I can count to 10 and ask how much something costs in Mandarin (I definitely couldn't spell it though)
9- I have been married for 5 years (with Jared for 7 1/2) and I still get embarrassed when I fart in front of him.
10- I am not a morning person
11- I would love move to a foreign country and live (not permanently)
12- I love roller coaster but they always make me really sick
13- I love water chestnuts
(Side note I just thought of for Jamie I still have the can of water chestnuts Jeremy gave me in college)
14- I don't like scary movies I watch them sometimes but there are not any that I like.
15- I have moved 6 times in the last 5 years.
OK I'm tapped that is all I can think of for now.

House Arrest

I am now a officially on house arrest. Why is that you say. Well, I am now 28 weeks pregnant and because of some complication.(see Velamentous insertion of the umbilical cord and Vasa Previa) They told me girls were more complicated but I didn't anticipate it being so obvious so soon. So I am throwing myself a pity party today. No not really but I am anticipating my poor two year old getting really sick of being stuck in the house with me. Any great suggestions on things to do with him that will not exert too much enery on my part.

The handicap of cell phones

I learned today what a handicap relying on cell phones is. We went to the zoo and were supposed to meet my friend and her daughter. Well we talked before we left and she said she would call me when she got there. I got in the car and forgot my phone. Which by the way I still can't find. When we got to the zoo there were a ton of people so we went and saw some animals then went to the guest services and asked to use their phone. I called but of course with the modern convenience of caller id she didn't recognize the number so I left a message of where we were going to be. I remember a time when you actually had to make plans instead of just saying we will call each other when we get there. Sometimes the "convenience" of cell phones can be a real problem!!

I took Jake to this place called Kangaroo Zoo it is so fun. Everything is blow up slides and toys so it is all safe. He is really brave and went on the "really big" slide over and over again. It is a great way to get all of his energy out. He fell asleep a 9 o'clock which is amazing for him.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'. That will bring on a 'whatever').

(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying get lost!

(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.

So I forgot to write for a couple of days while we were in Rexburg visiting my family. We had a great time. All of the cousins came and we played at Wada and Grandpa's and we got to see Kevin play 3 ball games. We got back late Saturday night. Then yesturday we watched the super bowl with my sister and her husband. GO STEELERS. I was the only one cheering for the them. Everyone else wanted the Cardinals to win. It was a really good game. Today we went to lunch with my mom and go to go pick up Jake's new accessories. His glasses. We went to the eye doctor last week and the doctor said he is losing vision in his right eye because it is much worse then the left so the brain just takes the image from the better eye. I took some pictures but I will post them tomorrow. He doesn't really like to wear them but hopefully he will get used to it.

High School Basketball

I came to Idaho to go to my little brothers high school basketball games this weekend. I love high school sports. It is such a fun atmosphere. It makes me miss playing a lot. He is a really good basketball player. It is fun to be a fan too. Man parents can be crazy though. I remember once in high school my dad got kicked out of my high school game because he was yelling at the ref. The next game the cheerleaders gave him the fan of the week award. Two of my sisters have been trying to get me to read the Twilight book series and for some reason I am really opposed to it. I don't have anything against it but I just am really not interested. The subject matter isn't particularly appealing to me. I don't know why. I am usually not a nonconformist but for some reason I feel a strong resistance to getting on the bandwagon with this. It sounds so silly but can anyone convince my why I should or should not read the series. My sisters cannot give a unbiased reason because they are both in love with the books.

Baby Brother

Today my baby brother turned 19. He is an amazing person. He is a hard worker and has great determination. He is very focused and knows how to get things done (the things he wants to get done). He is an amazing uncle. Jake always wants to go to Kev's house. He is always willing to help with babysitting or just being with his neices and nephews. He is very caring and understanding. I know in a few months he will be a great missionary too. I love him so much and know that he is going to acheive great things in life because of his determination and positive outlook.

Positive thoughts

I have been looking back and I realized that I put a lot of the things that Jake does that aren't so cute on here but I forget to put the really cute things he says. Some of my favorites are he will lay next to me and put both hands on my cheeks and say "sweet momma" in just the most precious voice. Now all the time he says "hold you" when he wants to be picked up. Every morning the first thing when he opens his eyes he says "momma where daddy go?" He loves to give elephant kisses where he blows on your cheek or head or neck or where ever he can reach and he just laughs because he thinks it is so funny. He is just awesome.

Movie Theaters and 2 year olds

Jared had the day off today so we decided we would take Jake to a matinee. He seems to really like movies at home but the movie theater was another story. First he wanted to stay in the lobby and play the video games. Then he was OK for a while because we had popcorn. After the popcorn was gone he wanted to run down the aisles. We went to Madagascar so I thought he would really like it but we ended up leaving before the movie was even over. I guess we will wait a while before we try that again.

Swimming in winter

I have discovered a new great way to tire Jake out. We went to the swimming pool today and afterward jake took a 2 hour nap. He had a lot of fun I only had to save his life twice as he tried to climb over the edge of the pool into the "lazy river" that is 4 feet deep and has a pretty good current.

Mystery Toy

I fell asleep after getting home from work late. I am now wide awake after some mystery toy in Jake's room keeps making this "boing, boing, boing" noise I have dumped all the toys out of his toy box gone through the closet and looked under the bed and I cannot figure out what is making the noise. Well I guess I will go back to bed and try to sleep through it. Of course while I was looking for the thing it was completely silent I am sure when I get back in bed it will start making noise again. Going to the Temple

We got to go to the Open house at the Draper Temple today. It is always amazing how beautiful and unique the each temple is but also how they are so similar. Jared was working so I went with my sisters and took Jake. Of course his favorite part was the bus ride that shuttled us from the church to the temple but we had a great time. The spirit in the temple is always peaceful even when you are chasing a 2 year old.

The Super Bowl

The STEELERS are going to be in the superbowl!!!! I told Jared I wanted to have a party and he said he didn't think anyone would come over. How sad is that. But I am still excited for the game. The Steelers are going to play the Arizona Cardinals. It is the first time they have been in the Super Bowl ever. I really like their quarterback Kurt Warner. He has an amazing story. He was working in a grocery store and got asked to be a back up then he won the super bowl in 1999. That probably doesn't do the story justice but that is the gist of it. But I hope he loses to Big Ben and the STEELERS!!!!!

Goin' Outback tonight

My sister gave us a gift card for Outback for Christmas. We got to go out on a "date" tonight. Jake went to his cousin's house and we went alone to dinner. I have only eaten at Outback maybe once before. It was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had (and I am pretty picky). But something I would totally recommend. They had call ahead seating so I called and got us on the list. When we got there the wait was like an hour and we were seated in less than 5 minutes it was so great. I am sure there were a bunch of people in the lobby that were giving us dirty looks but hey if the option is there. The food was so good and our waitress was great. Well maybe the best part was that we got to be alone for a few minutes without having to tell Jake not to climb off the table or take turns taking him for a walk. Anyway we had a great night.

Being Pregnant

The Zoo

We went to the Zoo today. It is such a great place because I can just let Jake run and he can't really get into trouble because everywhere he is not supposed to go is fenced off. He loves the elephants but he can't seem to get the difference between the elephant and the rhinoceros. He thinks they are all elephants. He also really likes the monkeys because he can sound just like them. The gorillas were inside and were sitting right next to the glass. Jake sat as close as he could to the glass and had an entire conversation with the gorilla. It was really cute I must say.
A Child's perception is so amazing. We were looking at the Cheetahs and the leopards and Jake kept saying "Kitty, Meow". I love that perception of the animals as little kittens.

9 am church

So we just switched over to 9am church. It is really difficult to get my son to sit through church be getting him out of bed is even more difficult. This morning he kept telling me "no church watch Super Why". Then all during sacrament he keeps asking when he gets to go play with the toys. I always tell him he has to wait until after the prayer. SO after the closing prayer he says amen and then starts cheering. It is so funny. The other thing is with church so early what do you do for the rest of the day. Any ideas?

I think most everyone who reads this knows but we are going to have a new baby at our house. I am almost 22 weeks pregnant. We are really excited. Jake just thinks mom's "big belly" is really funny. It is going to be really interesting to see how he responds to not being the only child anymore. He loves babies though, so I think he will be a really good big brother.

We spent the day with Jake's future wife Emma. They have so much fun together we went to Wheeler Farm and then went and saw my friend Misty at work. We ended up going to eat with her at Panda express since both of our husbands were doing scout stuff. Jared was at scout camp for 3 days and Mike had a cub meeting. Anyway taking the two of them to eat was quite an adventure. Luckily the restaurant wasn't busy so when Jake was running across the room to try to go out the door I was able to catch him. Emma just strolled around in Misty's high heels it was so cute!

The BIG TRUCKS!!

We went to Orderville to a family reunion last weekend and we stopped to see my uncle and Jake and his cousins loved the "BIG trucks" Jake did not want to get off of the truck. Uncle Mac was so nice to let us come and let the kids climb on all of the tractors. We were in Panguitch where Mac was working then we stopped in Hatch to see Devan before reaching Orderville. In Orderville we made homemade bread with Aunt Jacque also on video so it will have to wait until I get smarter!! But we made a ton of bread it was fun but also hard work. While we were making bread the kids all went outside and played in the mud in the drive way. There was a ton of mud because it rained the day before. They were soooo dirty but they had a great time.

Jared spent the weekend with the scouts up in the Uintahs and Jake and I went to the drive-in friday night and watched Wall-E. We did get our family pictures from the reunion. I still need a CD to install my camera on the computer so I can put the other pictures on.
